Saturday — Jump Rope Challenge. The Quay County Health Council is hosting this event for all age groups from 10 a.m. to noon at the Quay County Fairgrounds Expo Center. Each participant will jump in two, 30-second rounds to determine his or her average. Register at forms.gle/LLb4DDXFVosvc4Uu7 or text (575) 815-4575 for the link.

Feb. 7 — Read with a Dog at Tucumcari Public Library. Join therapy dog Pearl for a special dog-themed story hour featuring the classic children’s book, “I’ll Teach My Dog 100 Worlds.” During the event at 2 p.m., children will have the chance to learn about dog safety, find out what live is like for a working dog with a disability, and practice reading aloud to Pearl. Participants will receive stickers, bookmarks and coloring pages.

Feb. 15 — Mardi Gras Shrimp Boil. The Tucumcari chapter of Altrusa International is hosting this event at the Tucumcari Elks Lodge. Starting at 6 p.m., it includes a dessert auction and a performance by the Curry County Outlaws. The $35 tickets are available form the Mesalands Community College Student Affairs Office, Quay County Clerk’s Office, Citizens Bank or any Mesalands Community College Foundation member. Proceeds benefit the foundation.

Feb. 22 — Tucumcari Chess Tournament. The third annual event will be hosted by Jackalope Coffee Haus at 201 S. Second St. Registration fee is $30, with divisions for beginning, intermediate and advanced players. For information, call (575) 815-4486.

March 1 — Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Party. The annual celebration by the Tucumcari Public Library of the children’s author will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tucumcari Convention Center.

April 25-26 — Tucumcari Film Festival. The annual festival of everything from short films to full-length movies will be at the Odeon Theatre and the Tucumcari High School auditorium. For more, go to filmfreeway.com/tucumcarifilmfest.
