The Logan boys basketball team, unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in Class 1A by MaxPreps.com, scored 28 unanswered points on a flurry of 3-pointers, fastbreaks and inside shots.
That run turned a 5-5 game into a 33-5 advantage early in the second period against the visiting Bears on Saturday.
The Longhorns then set the cruise control for an 81-42 victory.
“We came out with a lot of energy and really did a great job sharing the ball with each other,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said of his team’s scoring run. “That led to a lot of open looks, which we were able to knock down.”
Logan (12-0) led 54-23 at halftime and 73-31 after three quarters.
Hayden Bruhn led the Longhorns with 24 points. Devin Kotara added 17 points.
Estancia, which competes in Class 2A, fell to 5-11.
Logan 83, Dora 53
The Longhorns took an early lead and built on it during an 83-53 victory over visiting Dora on Thursday.
Logan led 41-17 at halftime and 51-32 after three quarters.
Bruhn led the Longhorns with 18 points. Jace Jackson and Mason Wallin each scored 11.
Griffiths said his team had a holiday break lengthened by the cancellation of the EPAC Tournament, and it showed.
“We looked a little rusty tonight,” Griffiths said. “We haven’t played a game in two weeks, but we still competed and hit some big shots.”
Dora fell to 4-8.
Wagon Mound 96, San Jon 14
Taking a 26-0 lead in the first quarter, Wagon Mound cruised to a 96-14 win Friday over visiting San Jon.
San Jon remained winless, falling to 0-12.
Wagon Mound, which led 47-13 at halftime, improved to 3-6.
Floyd 47, San Jon 11
Floyd blasted visiting San Jon 47-11 during a game on Jan. 14.
The Broncos led 24-5 at intermission against the Coyotes.
Floyd improved to 4-6.
