Lady Longhorn powerlifters win Logan Invite

The Logan High School girls powerlifting team boasted four first-place winners and captured the team title at a seven-team Logan Invitational meet on Jan. 13 at Logan.

Also, a San Jon girl also finished first in her division and lifted the most weight of the day.

For Logan, April Lansdell (competing in the 105-pound division), Aaliyah Lansdell (114), Makinlee Judd (132) and Kara Bibbs (220) each won their respective classes at the tournament.

The Lady Longhorns easily won the team title with 53 points.

San Jon finished with fifth with 15 points, and Tucumcari was sixth with 12 points.

San Jon’s Dakota Fisher, competing at the 165-pound division, lifted a total of 620 pounds during the competition to win her class and outpaced all other competitors on the day.

She lifted 200 pounds in the squat, 130 pounds in the bench press and 290 pounds in the dead lift.

Top competitors for the Lady Rattlers were MJ Broom (105 pound division) and Isabel Morales (198), each finishing second.

In boys powerlifting at the Logan Invite, the Longhorns finished a close third with 39 points. Santa Rosa won the meet with 42 points, and Clayton was runner-up with 40.

Tucumcari finished fourth with 20 points, and San Jon was seventh with 11 points.

Individual winners for the Longhorns were Lucas Barreras (114-pound division), Bill DeLuca (123) and Marshall Ortega (198).

For Tucumcari, Logan Lafferty won his 165-pound division.

For San Jon, Isidro Martinez captured the 148-pound class.

Tucumcari’s next powerlifting meet is at the Portales Invitational on Feb. 8.
