1975: Three Tucumcari police officers were commended by the FBI for their alertness and cooperation in apprehending a suspect in a stolen car last fall.
Sgt. Pete Rivera and officers Henry Todara and John Mascarenas in November detained the suspect in a car that had been stolen from a drug-abuse program in Virginia. The suspect had been an enrollee in the program.
The commendation letter was signed by FBI special agent in charge William Meincke.
— Monthly telephone bills would be slightly lower this month due to a 1% reduction in the federal excise tax. The tax, a holdover from World War II, was scheduled to be phased out by 1982.
— A Tucumcari woman was taken to Trigg Memorial Hospital after her car struck an Ohio-based semi-tractor trailer on West Tucumcari Boulevard. She was ticketed for careless driving.
— The Speedway market in Tucumcari was selling five avocados for $1, four pounds of red or Golden Delicious apples for $1 and a two-pound bag of carrots for 29 cents.
— Southwest Motors in Tucumcari was selling an 1972 Chevrolet Impala for $2,295 and a 1970 Pontiac Catalina for $1,495. Both cars had one local owner.
