Serving the High Plains
The Logan boys basketball team remained undefeated after a 71-51 road victory Saturday at Santa Rosa.
The Longhorns (7-0) broke open the game with an 18-5 second quarter run to grab a 35-16 lead at the half.
“We really set the tone on the defensive end,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said. “We were extremely active and did a great job disrupting their offense. I also felt like we handled their press very well throughout the game, which led to easy baskets for us.
“Santa Rosa is a tough place to play, so I was proud of how we came prepared.”
Mason Wallin led Logan with 23 points, and Hayden Bruhn added 20.
Santa Rosa, ranked third in Class 2A by MaxPreps.com, fell to 4-3.
After Christmas break, Logan resumes its season with a home game on Jan. 3 against Clayton.
Logan 53, Roy-Mosquero 50
The Logan boys basketball team survived a scare during a rematch Thursday against host Roy-Mosquero but prevailed 53-50.
Devin Kotara hit a 3-point shot with 2:30 left to put his team ahead, and Diego Sanchez scored a bucket and three free throws in the final 1:16 to help secure the win.
Roy-Mosquero tried what would have been a game-tying 3-point shot in the final seconds, but missed.
Griffiths felt fortunate his team prevailed.
“It was a tough environment to play in, and we definitely faced some adversity,” he said. “I was proud of the guys for keeping their heads and continuing to battle down the stretch, which led us to a win.”
Sanchez scored 19 points to lead the Longhorns. Wallin added 15 points.
Earlier this month, Logan blasted Roy-Mosquero 72-29 in the title game of the Dora tournament.
Roy-Mosquero fell to 3-4.
