The Logan boys basketball team breezed to the championship of the J.P. Stone Tournament in Dora with three victories, including a 72-29 blasting of Roy-Mosquero on Saturday in the final.
The Longhorns (3-0) jumped to a 15-1 lead against the Blue and led 46-8 at halftime.
Logan’s superior size — namely 6-foot-7 Hayden Bruhn and 6-foot-5 Mason Wallin — made Roy-Mosquero change its shots near the basket, hampering its offense.
Bruhn scored 28 points to lead the Longhorns, including a dunk in the second quarter. Wallin added 17 points. Jace Jackson contributed nine points.
Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said he was proud of the way his players worked together during the weekend.
“I felt like we really shared the ball well,” he said. “Defensively, we really worked hard, which led to a lot of easy baskets on the offensive side. Overall, it was a good early-season performance.”
Roy-Mosquero fell to 2-1.
The Longhorns averaged well over 70 points during the tournament with an average margin of victory of 37.
Logan 73, Maxwell 49
Logan advanced to the finals of the Dora tourney with a 73-49 victory Friday over Maxwell.
The Longhorns started slowly, trailing 17-12 after the first quarter.
After that, they caught fire, outscoring the Bears 22-5 in the second period and 39-27 in the second half.
Wallin scored 24 points to lead Logan, while Aydin Kotara added 19 points and Bruhn 18.
Maxwell suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 2-1.
Logan 77, Portales JV 33
The Longhorns opened their season Thursday with a 77-33 pasting of the Portales junior-varsity squad in the first round of the Dora tourney.
Logan steamrolled past the Rams from the get-go, leading 22-8 after the first quarter and 46-14 at halftime.
Wallin scored 21 points to lead the Longhorns, while Kotara added 14 and Jackson 13.
Hondo Valley 52, San Jon 17
Hondo Valley seized control almost from the outset against visiting San Jon in a 51-17 victory Saturday over the Coyotes.
The Eagles led 21-4 after the first quarter, 31-9 at halftime and 50-11 after three periods.
San Jon fell to 0-3 on the season.
Hondo Valley improved to 1-1.
Wagon Mound 82, San Jon 22
Wagon Mound led 30-4 after one quarter during an annihilation Thursday of host San Jon.
The Trojans led 56-11 at intermission.
Wagon Mound improved to 1-1.
