State Canvass Board certifies general election results

New Mexico’s State Canvass Board on Nov. 26 unanimously certified the results of the 2024 general election.

The board is comprised of the governor, Secretary of State and chief justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court.

During the meeting, the board also ordered automatic recounts in elections for state representative District 57 and Los Alamos County commissioner at large. Both races saw margins of less than 1%.

The next scheduled State Canvass Board meeting to certify the automatic recount results will be on Dec. 16.

The board also shared pieces of voter turnout data from the 2024 general election:

— Total registered voters eligible to participate in the 2024 general election: 1,382,761 — Total voter turnout: 928,290 (67.13%) — Absentee turnout: 111,403 (12%) — Early voting turnout: 556,281 (59.93%) — Election Day turnout: 252,515 (27.20%)

— Hand tally or provisional votes: 8,091 (0.87%) — Use of same-day voter registration (early voting and Election Day): 52,358 — Election Day same-day voter registration transactions: 25,485

“The 2024 General Election was run with efficiency and integrity by the state’s election administrators, and every New Mexican should have the highest level of confidence in these official election results,” Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver stated in a news release.

“I want to thank the members of the State Canvass Board for their work this morning and my staff at the Secretary of State’s Office, our county clerks and their staff, the poll workers, our vendors, and our local, state, and federal partners who were the backbone of this successful election.”
