Logan Municipal Schools probably will know by mid-December who will be its interim superintendent to replace the departing Dennis Roch.
The district’s board during a special meeting on Nov. 26 voted to accept applications for candidates for interim superintendent through noon Dec. 5.
Board President Toby Willis said during the meeting that top candidates likely would be interviewed on Dec. 9, and the board “hopefully” would approve an interim superintendent on Dec. 16.
The board tabled action on a timeline for hiring a permanent superintendent. It also accepted Roch’s letter of retirement.
The board’s action followed a closed executive session with Roch for about 1 hour, 45 minutes to discuss the forthcoming vacancy.
On a notice of vacancy posted on the district’s website and on social media, the district stated that applicants who submit a letter of interest and resume must possess a New Mexico School Administrator’s license or be eligible to obtain one by Jan. 1. They also must pass a background check.
“Superintendent experience preferred,” stated the notice.
The interim superintendent would serve from Jan. 1 through June 30, the notice stated.
Roch informed the board and district staff he was retiring effective Dec. 31 so he could become a caucus chief of staff for New Mexico Senate Republicans.
Roch, 51, who was a Republican state representative in District 67 from 2009 to 2018, has been Logan’s superintendent since 2013.
Roch succeeds Vincent Torres, who served as chief of staff under state Sen. Greg Baca of Belen. Baca, a former minority leader, did not run for re-election.
