Logan’s basketball teams will be playing under new scoreboards this season.
The Logan Municipal Schools board last Monday accepted a donation of new scoreboards from The Bank of Logan.
Superintendent Dennis Roch said the new scoreboards would be installed both in the main gymnasium and the Performing Arts Center, which often is used during tournaments.
Roch said a crew would install the new scoreboards before the start of basketball season. He said the devices can operate wirelessly.
In addition, new branding reflecting the donation from The Bank of Logan would be installed at the football and baseball fields.
The Bank of Logan, a division of The Bank of Clovis, opened in February in the former New Mexico Bank & Trust building along U.S. 54 in the village.
New Mexico Bank & Trust closed its Logan branch in December 2022.
In other business:
— The board approved an application to the New Mexico Public School Facilities Authority to work at the prekindergarten building.
Roch said replacing the facility’s roof and correcting drainage problems around the building would involve an estimated $344,000.
Logan’s share of that would be $216,000. Roch said the district would use leftover bond money or other funds for the project.
— The board discussed the formation of a logo design committee after the district surveys its students, faculty and staff about a proposed logo for sports teams.
Board President Toby Willis acknowledged a “poor reception” for the proposed new logo after a Santa Fe firm was hired to design it earlier this year.
Several student-athletes and parents voiced their dissatisfaction with the revised logo at several board meetings this summer.
“I think we acknowledge we could have done things differently,” Willis said.
— The board approved a congratulatory letter to the Logan FFA’s parliamentary procedure team, which won the state title and competed at the national competition in Indianapolis.
— The board approved a second and final reading of a revised policy for random drug and alcohol testing for student-athletes. The revision reflects opening varsity sports to sixth-graders.
