Lady Longhorns earn key district win over Vixens

After losing its first two sets, the Logan volleyball squad rallied to win the next three and capture a key district match Saturday at Fort Sumner.

The Lady Longhorns, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A by MaxPreps.com, prevailed by a 13-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-15, 15-8 score over the Vixens, ranked fifth, in both teams’ district opener.

Haylie Bidegain led Logan with 11 kills and four aces. Desta Rose added eight kills and a team-high 24 digs. Makinlee Judd and Aspen Casey each added eight kills. Charli Fuller made 25 assists.

Logan improved to 12-3 overall.

“We didn’t play the first two sets,” Logan coach Glynna Strand said. “Came out slow and didn’t play our game. Finally picked it up in the third set and continued into the fourth and fifth.”

Fort Sumner fell to 7-6 overall.

Logan 3, Dora 0

The Lady Longhorns rolled over visiting non-district foe Dora by a 25-13, 25-19, 25-21 score on Thursday.

Bidegain totaled 12 kills in the match for Logan, while Rose added eight and 20 digs. Fuller made 16 assists.

Dora fell to 0-11.

Lake Arthur 3, San Jon 0

Maxwell 3, San Jon 0

San Jon dropped two matches at their tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Coyotes dropped their tourney-opening match 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 to Lake Arthur, which won three matches at the event to improve to 10-4.

San Jon then fell 25-20, 25-10, 25-17 to Maxwell, which won two of three at the tournament to improve to 9-4.

San Jon fell to 4-9.
