Friday-Saturday — Mesalands Community College Rodeo. Sessions both nights begin at 6 p.m. at the Quay County Fairgrounds arena, with doors opening at 5. Admission for adults is $10, teens $5 and children age 12 and younger are admitted free.
Oct. 18-19 — “History Alive: Ghosts of the Old West.” Gather around a campfire to hear stories and legends from the Bell Ranch and Beyond. Storytelling begins at 6 p.m. at the Tucumcari Historic Railroad Depot. Oct. 19 — Arf City pet event. Art City in Tucumcari at 10134 Highway 104 and Paws & Claws Animal Rescue of Quay County will host an event of wiener dog races, canine costume connotes, stupid pet trick contest, scavenger hunt, nail trims, food vendors free pet vaccines, adoptions, workshops and microchipping from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Go to tucumcaridogtraining.com/arf-city-2024 for more information.
Oct. 19 — Altrusa International of Tucumcari 47th annual Boo Bash fundraiser. This year’s event, which will be held virtually on the organization’s Facebook page at 6 p.m., will feature a reverse-drawing grand prize of $15,000. Tickets are $100 and are available from Altrusa members.
Oct. 26 — Pumpkin Carving Contest & Crawl. The Tucumcari Historical Museum at 416 S. Adams St. will host this event from 2 to 4 p.m., with cash prizes from the Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce.
Oct. 26 — TucumScary Halloween Block Party. Second Street in downtown will be closed to traffic from Main to Aber streets from 4 to 7 p.m. for trick-or-treating and other activities. Vendors who wish to participate should call Connie at (575) 403-6272 or Annie at (575) 403-6859.
Nov. 16-18 — Spay/neuter clinic. Paws & Claws Animal Rescue of Quay County is hosting this drive-up clinic by RezDawg Rescue for county residents only. Those who wish to make appointments should go to https://tinyurl.com/3rza4x69, text 720-706-8810 or email [email protected]. Surgery cost is $25 for cats and dogs at 12 weeks to 7 years and includes a cone, pain medication, microchip and core vaccines. Cats should be brought in a carrier. Please consider an extra $20 donation to help offset the cost of staff lodging, meals and supplies.
Dec. 7 — 12th annual Christmas Expo. The event at the Tucumcari Convention Center will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a visit from Santa Claus from 1 to 3 p.m. and a canned food drive by Ministry of Hope.
