Clerk's office: Election deadlines coming up

The Quay County Clerk’s Office is reminding voters of deadlines and upcoming procedures related to the Nov. 5 election.

Absentee ballots are available at the clerk’s office at 300 S. Third St. in Tucumcari or online at NMVote.org. A voter may request to be a permanent absentee by marking the appropriate box on the form.

The last day an absentee ballot application can be processed is Oct. 22.

Voters who need to update or make changes to registrations must do so at the clerk’s office or at NMVote.org before the end of the day on Oct. 8.

New voters may register in person at the clerk’s office through Nov. 2 during early voting hours if they have appropriate identification.

New voters also may vote on Election Day at county voter centers.

New voters may register online at NMVote.org, but that deadline is the end of the day on Oct. 8.

Early and absentee voting begins on Oct. 8. The county clerk’s office hours will be from 7 am.. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, plus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 1 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 2.

On Election Day, voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tucumcari Convention Center, Forrest fire station, House Community Center, Logan Civic Center, San Jon Community Center and the Nara Visa Community Center.

The clerk’s office will begin certification of the county’s vote-counting machines at 9 a.m. on Sept. 30 in the commission chambers of the county courthouse. Certification will continue throughout the day and week until all the machines have been tested and certified. The process is open to the public.

The nnline training portal for election watchers, challengers and observers will be available on the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website starting on Sept. 30.

The school of instruction for election board will start at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 28 and 29.
