A person was hospitalized after being shot in northwest Tucumcari about noon Saturday.
Tucumcari Police Chief Patti Lopez said the shooting occurred in the 600 block of West High Street. Dispatchers received several calls of shots fired in that area.
The victim was taken to the emergency room of Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari, then transferred to an Amarillo hospital due to the seriousness of the injuries, she said.
Lopez said the crime scene had been secured, but no arrests have been made. She said she had few other details about the shooting.
Tucumcari and New Mexico State Police vehicles were stationed Saturday afternoon near a public-housing unit on West High Street where yellow police caution tape had been strung across its perimeter.
Lopez said state police were interviewing another person believed involved in the shooting.
She said NMSP was taking over the investigation. An email to a New Mexico State Police public information officer wasn't immediately answered.
More details will be reported in the next edition of the Quay County Sun.
