1974: District Judge Stanley Frost dismissed one charge of battery against Tucumcari City Commissioner John Crespin and deferred a sentence on the other charge of tampering with public records by attempting to remove a police incident.
In court, witnesses testified they saw Crespin push city manager Alan Morris during an argument at City Hall, prompting an office staffer to call police.
Police officers later testified that Crespin came into the police department, requested an examination of the incident report, then folded it and placed it in his pocket before leaving. Crespin’s brother later that day retrieved the report.
Crespin had pleaded not guilty to both counts.
Crespin told the Tucumcari News he was considering filing charges against Morris for making false, degrading accusations against him.
