Notices being sent to possibly moved voters

More than 600 voters registered in Quay County may need to update their voter-registration information before the general election in November.

According to a news release from the Quay County Clerk’s Office, the New Mexico Secretary of State will send a voter-address confirmation postcard to 680 voters in the county who have been identified as having possibly moved and did not update their registrations.

The postcards would be sent no later than Aug. 7.

State law requires the Secretary of State to send a notice to possibly relocated voters between the primary and general elections.

County Clerk Ellen White said 680 possibly moved voters is fairly typical during an election year. She said the number usually ranges between 500 and 700.

Voters who receive the address-conformation postcard can take these actions:

— Complete the postcard and return it to the county clerk;

— Go to nmvote.org to update their voter registration online;

— Request a paper registration form from the county clerk’s office.

New Mexico is a member of the Multi-State Electronic Registration Center that identifies voters who have possibly moved out of state by cross-checking voter-registration files with state motor vehicle divisions.

An outreach mailer was sent on July 29 to voters who may have been identified on the comparison. Instructions on how to cancel a registration or update what is included in the letter.

Voters in general should check their registration information at nmvote.org. Information can be updated there or at the county clerk’s office.

Also, the absentee voting portal to request a mailed ballot for the November election is open. Applications can be submitted through nmvote.org or by requesting one from the county clerk’s office at (575) 461-0510.
