Quay County 4-H's agronomy team took home a state title during the 101st annual New Mexico State 4-H Conference at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
The local team of Keira Black, Ashton Smith and Patric Szaloy won the crown, with Black winning a buckle for high-point individual and Smith as third-high individual.
The second Quay County team of Carter Smith, Paxton Smith and Maddie Kenyon finished third at state.
Also, Ashton Smith won first place in the Fashion Revue with her Senior Clothing Construction I Casual Wear and was selected as the overall high-point individual.
Smith will represent New Mexico 4-H at the national contest in San Antonio in January.
The horticulture team of Keira Black, Carter Smith, Patric Szaloy and Desirae Young finished second, with Black finishing second as an individual.
The entomology team of Desirae Young, Patric Szaloy and Maddie Kenyon finished fourth.
The wildlife team of Patric Szaloy, Paxton Smith, Ashton Carter and Desirae Young finished fifth.
Kenyon participated in the Impromptu Public Speaking and finished fifth-high individual.
Addie Lafferty finished fifth both in the Livestock Skill-a-Thon and meats judging.
The Range Management team had previously competed in the state contest held in conjunction with the state FFA contest was recognized for finishing second, with members Payson Nials, Trinity Grant and Lizzy Kanapilly. Nials also was the second-high individual.
Eight senior 4-H members and extension agents Jason Lamb and Erin Smith participated in eight contests throughout the week along with attending general sessions, workshops, 4-H meetings and dances daily.
About 350 4-H members and adults from participated at the conference.
