Two local FFA members attain high positions

Two local students recently attained positions in the higher echelons of FFA.

Maddie Kenyon, who will be a junior this fall at House High School, learned last week she will be an FFA in the USA reporter for the national organization.

Also, MiKayla Klinger, who will be a senior at Tucumcari, was elected vice president of New Mexico FFA and president of its District II, which includes much of the northeast part of the state.

Kenyon will begin training for the FFA in the USA reporter position in mid-July, after which she will submit a minimum of one story per month to the national FFA.

She said she believes she landed the job because of her previous experience as a reporter for the House Roundup school newspaper and doing free-lance reporting for the Quay County Sun.

Kenyon will be an FFA in the Field reporter through the 2024-2025 school year. Her future interests are in agriculture education and communication.

Klinger noted the Tucumcari FFA chapter hasn’t had many state officers in its history.

“I would like to ignite a change in our chapter that would last for generations that inspire and empower students to take that next step in ag advocacy,” she wrote. “With a strong base for current and future members I will strive to work with my fellow officers to impact New Mexico FFA for generations to come.”

In 2021, she was national champion in the Agriscience Division 2 Social Science division and won a state title in illustrated talk the previous year.

Klinger, who also has won several champion poultry awards at fairs in New Mexico, stated in an application she wants to be a poultry veterinarian.

Klinger also has been a member of the THS wrestling, golf and cross-country teams.
