Thursday - Tucumcari Fourth of July Parade. The Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce is organizing this event, set for 10 a.m. on Route 66 from Lake Street to the Tucumcari Convention Center. Floats, cars, ATVs, motorcycles, bicycles, walking groups and individuals in the parade are encouraged. Entry forms are at the Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce office or going online to shorter.at/WMgaG. The annual fireworks display over the Elks Lodge will be at dusk.
Saturday - Red, White and Ute. The Ute Lake Fourth of July Celebration in Logan includes a parade at 10 a.m. on village streets and fireworks at dusk. The village's chamber of commerce also is selling raffle tickets that include a $10,000 prize or a Yamaha UMAX Rally golf cart valued at $14,495. The Logan Baptist Church sanctuary will host its annual Covering Our Heroes with Quilts presentation at 11:30 a.m. after the parade.
Sunday - San Jon Independence Day celebration. The San Jon Community Center will host a free hot dogs and homemade ice cream at 7 p.m. before a fireworks show by the First Baptist Church about 9 p.m.
July 13 - "Cross of Iron" book signing. Author Nick Pappas will give a presentation and sign copies of his book at 2 p.m. He also will be joined by Frank Turner, founder of the Tucumcari Railroad Museum, in the renovated east room of the Tucumcari Railroad Depot. Pappas' book goes into the history of two mining disasters in Dawson, New Mexico. The rail line from Dawson once connected to Tucumcari.
July 26-27 - Quay County 4-H Rodeo. This competition at the Quay County Fairgrounds for senior, junior and novice rodeo athletes draws from a wide region. Events, which begin at 5 p.m. each day, include bareback bronc riding, bull riding, tiedown roping, ribbon roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, barrel racing, pole bending, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and team roping.
July 27 - St. Anne's Fiesta. The annual event by the St. Anne's Catholic Church will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Anne's school and Hammond Hall with games, music, food, fiesta baskets and a raffle ticket drawing. July 27 - Ute Lake Outdoor Day. New Mexico Game & Fish is hosting this event at the Ute Lake State Park entrance from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities include a poach coach, pellet gun trailer, casting demonstration, wildlife identification, archery, water safety presentation, off-highway motor vehicle simulator and more. Hot dogs, popsicles and water will be provided. Cost is $5 for a state park day pass.
Aug. 1-4 - Rattler Reunion. This annual event will include a parade, picnics and the Saturday night banquet. For more information, go to rattlerreunion.com.
Aug. 7-10 - Quay County Fair. The annual event at the Quay County Fairgrounds in Tucumcari will feature all sorts of livestock shows, plus fine arts and home arts competitions in the exposition center. The fair concludes with the annual Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday night.
