1974: A total of 23 Tucumcari Public Schools teachers won’t return for the 1974-75 school year, according to a list published in the Tucumcari News.

A total of eight teachers retired, seven resigned to take jobs in other school districts that included Artesia, Muleshoe and Las Cruces, and three were not rehired.

Two teachers were going back to school for advanced degrees, one resigned because her husband was moving, one stepped aside because she had a baby, and one found a better job at a vocational school.

— Polly Flint of San Jon Auto Parts received a special Gates Mystery Shopper Award from a representative of Gates Rubber Co. for exceptional customer service.

— A federal judge who indefinitely postponed the conspiracy trial of John D. Ehrlichman because President Richard Nixon won’t yield his former aide’s subpoenaed White House files prepared to issue orders for Nixon to comply.

— About a half-dozen children were taking Beginning Swimming lessons at Tucumcari Municipal Pool at Five Mile Park.

— Southwest Motors was offering a 50% discount for an engine tuneup for a total price of $26.95, labor included.
