Serving the High Plains
The Village of Logan has officially launched its first tourism campaign for Ute Lake, coining the slogan "the best lake you've never been to."
The village also launched a new website, VisitUteLake.com, that provides potential visitors local fishing reports, where to eat, places to stay and more.
Funding for the campaign came, in part, from a $15,000 outdoor marketing grant announced in March from the New Mexico Economic Development Department.
The grant also is being used to print pamphlets and place print advertisements.
The grant was one of 41 awarded statewide, totaling more than $873,000 plus $1.18 million in matching funds to support recreation initiatives.
Ute Lake boasts an ability to host a variety of water sports including boating, wake surfing, kayaking and swimming.
The village also is encouraging visitors to camp, explore hiking trails near the lake and visit the nearby golf course.
While Ute Lake has mostly flown under the radar for many in the state, the campaign aims to inform more people about Logan and what the lake offers.
Noted for its bass tournaments and some of the best walleye fishing in the Southwest, Ute Lake is known among many fishing aficionados.
But village officials surmised Ute Lake may be overlooked compared to many lakes in New Mexico, including Elephant Butte, Abiquiu, Navajo and Cochiti.
"There are some New Mexicans who live closer to us than to Elephant Butte, especially in the eastern and northern parts of the state," said Eric Grant, owner of the Old Country Inn motel in Logan.
"We want them to know that we are here and that our town welcomes them with open arms."
