Three players from Logan’s softball team earned all-district honors after the Lady Longhorns tied for first place in their district and made the postseason for the first time in years.
The Longhorns’ all-district picks were junior Marilyn Moreno, eighth-grader Zaiyana Grijalva and senior Camryn Cantrell.
Moreno, a catcher and shortstop, hit .696 with a 1.140 slugging average.
Grijalva hit .455. As a pitcher, she struck out 84 batters in 71 innings.
Cantrell hit .514 during her final season with the Lady Longhorns.
Honorable mentions were senior Brookel Smith, freshman Jadyn Garcia, junior Presley Griffitt, senior Bella Coronado, senior Hailee Robertson and sophomore Charli Fuller.
Logan finished with an 8-8 record overall and a 7-2 mark in district play, tying with Santa Rosa for the lead.
Santa Rosa won the tiebreaker for the district crown by winning more games against Logan in head-to-head play.
The Lady Longhorns earned their first playoff berth since 2019, losing in the opening round to eventual state runner-up Mesilla Valley Christian.
Tucumcari coach CJ Oglesby announced during Tucumcari High School’s athletic banquet that two of his players earned all-district honors — senior centerfielder Haisley Huffman and senior shortstop Harley McKinney.
Huffman hit .543 (second on the team) and was second with 20 runs scored. She also tied for the team lead in on-base percentage (.673).
McKinney hit .395 with a team-leading 21 runs scored and was second on the team in doubles with seven.
Honorable mentions were senior Alexis Ramirez, junior Caylee Benavidez and sophomore Angel Vasquez.
Tucumcari finished with a 12-13 record overall and qualified for the Class 3A playoffs. District foe Ruidoso eliminated the Lady Rattlers in the first round.
