The Logan softball team swept a district doubleheader at Pecos by scores of 22-2 and 23-2 on Friday.
In the opener, Logan pitcher Zaiyana Grijalva struck out six in three innings and went 2-for-2 with two walks and four runs scored.
In the second game, Brookel Smith went 4-for-4 for the Lady Longhorns with two doubles and seven RBI.
In the second game, Grijalva struck out six batters again and went 3-for-3 from the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. Kara Bibbs had three RBI and cracked a double that missed being a home run by inches. Marilyn Moreno went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
The Lady Longhorns improved to 4-7 overall and remained in contention in district play with a 3-2 record. Logan was only a half-game behind Santa Rosa in the district standings.
Pecos fell to 0-12 overall and 0-4 in district play.
Santa Rosa 13, Logan 12
The Lady Longhorns’ comeback attempt fell short during a 13-12 district loss last Monday to host Santa Rosa.
Logan trailed 13-10 in the final inning and pushed two runs across to make it 13-12 before the Lady Lions secured the victory.
Logan held a 9-6 lead after three innings, but Santa Rosa scored seven runs in the final three frames.
The Lady Longhorns drew 16 walks off pitcher Kassie Padilla.
Jadyn Garcia went 2-for-3 for the Lady Longhorns with two walks and was hit by a pitch. Moreno walked three times, scored three runs and drove in another. Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Logan hurt its cause with nine errors.

Logan split a non-district road doubleheader Thursday against the Raton junior varsity.
The Lady Longhorns won the opener 11-6 but fell in the nightcap by an 11-8 score.
In the opener, Charli Fuller went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Presley Griffitt went 4-for-5 with two RBI. Grijalva struck out 10 batters in seven innings.
In the nightcap, Hailee Robertson hit an RBI triple and scored. Bella Coronado went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
