Logan girls edge THS for Fox-Vixen relays title

The Logan girls track team edged county rival Tucumcari for the team title Saturday at the 19-team Fox-Vixen Relays on Saturday at Fort Sumner.

In boys competition, Logan’s Haden Judd won three individual events and was second in another, but the Longhorns finished runner-up in the team standings to district rival Melrose.

The Lady Longhorns finished with 75 1/2 team points, while the Lady Rattlers took the runner-up spot with 53 points.

The Logan girls had just one individual champion — Makinlee Judd in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.4 seconds — but piled up points with strong finishes in nearly every event.

The Lady Longhorns also won the 400-meter relay (52.76 seconds) and 1,600-meter medley relay (4:59.69).

Other Lady Longhorns who scored team points at the meet:

— Kaylee Williams, second, 100-meter dash (0:13.29), and second, long jump (15-0);

— Abby Paris, second, discus (93-3);

— Brynn Bush, fourth, pole vault (7-0);

— Sarah Williams, sixth, 400-meter dash (1:10.07), and fourth, triple jump (29-2);

— Aaliyah Lansdell, sixth, javelin (82-3);

— Sadie Bruhn, sixth, 1,600-meter run (6:51.37);

— Joyce Jones, seventh, 400-meter dash (1:11.64);

— 800-meter relay, third (1:54.01);

— 1,600-meter relay, third (4:39.67);

— 3,200-meter relay, fourth (11:37.53).

Tucumcari’s Haisley Huffman easily won the long jump (16-1 1/4) and the triple jump (34-2). She is the defending state champion in both events.

Tucumcari also won the 1,600-meter relay race in a time of 4:30.84.

Other Lady Rattlers who scored points:

— Aubriana French, third, triple jump (30-2 1/2), and fourth, long jump (13-6);

— July Lafferty, fourth, javelin (87-8);

— Kirksey Smith, fourth, shot put (29-2 3/4);

— 400-meter relay, second (0:53.21);

— 800-meter relay, second (1:53.88).

In boys action, the Buffaloes used their immense depth to score 91 team points, edging Logan’s total of 74 1/2 points.

Tucumcari finished eighth with 26 points, and House scored four points.

Haden Judd won the 100-meter dash (11.27 seconds), 200-meter dash (23.15 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles race (39.98 seconds). He also finished runner-up in the triple jump (41 feet, 11 1/4 inches).

Hayden Bruhn also won the 400-meter dash in 53.36 seconds for the Longhorns.

Logan’s 1,600-meter relay team also finished in first place with a time of 3:33.33.

Other Longhorns who scored team points were:

— Aydin Kotara, second, 100-meter dash (0:11.67), and second, 200-meter dash (0:23.69);

— Brock Burns, third, high jump (5-8);

— Kaeden Stoner, fourth, javelin (134-9), and sixth, 300-meter hurdles (0:44.95);

— Mason Wallin, fourth, discus (129-3);

— Jace Jackson, sixth, javelin (125-8);

— 800-meter relay team, second (1:38.15);

— 3,200-meter relay team, fifth (9:31.60).

For the Tucumcari boys team, Daymion Urioste finished second in the 400-meter dash in 0:53.77.

Other finishers for the Rattlers who scored team points:

— Alex Bueno De La O, fourth in the 3,200-meter run (10:52.48);

— Jeremy Jones, fifth in the long jump (18-1 1/2);

— 400-meter relay, fifth, (0:47.89);

— 800-meter relay, fifth, (1:39.58)

— 1,600-meter relay, fifth, (3:52.01).

For House, Chris Hernandez finished third in the pole vault with a height of 9 feet.

Meet of Champions

Two Logan athletes competed last Monday in the annual Marilyn Sepulveda Meet of Champions at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

The invitation-only meet pits the state’s top eight athletes in running events and top 12 in field events in all enrollment classes.

Haden Judd performed best against the field in the boys triple jump, finishing third with an effort of 43 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Fredrick Ford of Albuquerque High won the event in 44-2.

Judd finished seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 41.71 seconds. Daniel Kim of Los Alamos won the event in 38.99 seconds.

Logan’s Kaylee Williams finished seventh in the girls triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Jay Daniels of Los Alamos won the event with a distance of 39-4 1/2.

Williams also competed in the girls long jump, finishing 11th with a distance of 13-9 1/2 feet. Isabella Romero of Albuquerque Academy won the event with a distance of 16-7 3/4.
