1974: The second annual Logan Bicentennial Banquet drew a record crowd of 425 people at Logan High School.
S.L. Abbott, regional director of the Bicentennial Administration, presented certificates to Logan Mayor Robert McFarland and Tucumcari city commissioner King Aitken, recognizing the municipalities as the first Bicentennial Village and Bicentennial City in New Mexico.
The banquet dinner was provided by the Fireside Inn Cafe.
— Organizers of the Tucumcari Performance Tested Bull Sale proclaimed it the most successful in its 13-year history, with each head of cattle fetching an average of more than $1,300.
— Tucumcari’s baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Portales by scores of 14-6 and 11-8. Sylvan Hendren hit a three-run homer in the first game, and Ralph Arias was the winning pitcher. Hendren earned the win in the second game.
— The Odeon Theatre was screening the Oscar-winning film “The Way We Were,” starring Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand.
— The Dairy Queen was offering “Scrumpdillyishus” banana splits for 49 cents.
