Judd leads Longhorns to team title at 17-team meet

Haden Judd won five individual events, powering the Logan boys team to a team title at the 17-team Logan Varsity Meet on Saturday.

Judd won the 200-meter dash (23.36 seconds), 400-meter dash (51.62 seconds), 110-meter hurdles race (16.42 seconds), pole vault (14 feet, 6 inches) and long jump (20-4).

That enabled the Longhorns to edge Farwell, Texas, by 86-84 in the race for total team points.

Fernando Ureste of Tucumcari won two individual events for the Rattlers — the 1,600-meter run (4:57.76) and 3,200-meter run (10:31.05).

Tucumcari finished fifth at the meet with 30 team points.

Kaeden Stoner of Logan placed in three events — second in the javelin (149-11.7), third in the 300-meter hurdles (0:45.55) and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (0:18.07). In the javelin, he trailed winner Ayden Clavel of Roy by less than three inches.

Other Longhorns who logged team points were:

— Aydin Kotara, second, 200-meter dash (0:24.09), and second, 400-meter dash (0:52.56);

— Hayden Bruhn, sixth, 400-meter dash (0:55.75);

— Bill DeLuca, fourth, 800-meter run (2:16.37);

— Mason Barnhart, sixth, 3,200-meter run (12:29.33);

— Izaiah Kneitz, sixth, triple jump (35-5 1/2);

— Jace Jackson, sixth, javelin (125-2);

— 400-meter relay team, third (0:46.94);

— 800-meter relay team, second (1:37.38);

— 1,600-meter relay team, third (3:55.67);

— 3,200-meter relay team, fifth (9:42.26).

Scoring team points for Tucumcari were:

— Alex Bueno De La O, second, 1,600-meter run (5:27.72), and second, 3,200-meter run (11:18.84);

— 400-meter relay team, fifth (0:47.41);

— 800-meter relay team, fourth (1:39.32);

For San Jon, Isidro Martinez finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (0:12.16) and the pole vault (9-0).

The Logan girls finished a distant second to Farwell in team points, 139-61.

Logan’s Kaylee Williams finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash (0:13.36) and third in the 200-meter dash (0:27.92) and triple jump (33-3).

Makinlee Judd also placed in three events for the Lady Longhorns — third in the long jump (14-10) and 100-meter hurdles (0:18.0) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (0:13.88).

Other Lady Longhorns who scored team points:

— Abby Paris, second, discus (91-7);

— Kyle Terry, fourth, 800-meter run (2:58.07), and fourth in 1,600-meter run (7:17.40);

— Sarah Williams, sixth, triple jump (28-6);

— 400-meter relay team, second (0:52.89);

— 1,600-meter relay team, third (4:48.38);

— 3,200-meter relay team, second (12:00.61);

— 1,600-meter sprint relay team, fourth (5:18.03).

Tucumcari, with several athletes playing at a softball tournament in West Las Vegas, finished 11th with nine team points.

July Lafferty finished second in the javelin with a throw of 104-3, trailing only Fort Sumner’s Emmarie Casaus’ effort of 106-6 1/4.

Kyla Lopez finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 0:55.95 and sixth in the high jump at 4-8.

For San Jon, Rayna Sena finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 16:09.61.
