THS' Benavidez makes Class 3A all-state team

Junior guard Caylee Benavidez earned first-team all state honors in Class 3A girls basketball in addition to being all-district.

Junior guard July Lafferty was an honorable mention all-state in addition to being named first-team all-district.

Also earning first-team Class 4-3A honors for the Lady Rattlers were senior guard Haisley Huffman, senior center Kirksey Smith and sophomore center Kyla Lopez.

Senior guard Alexis Ramirez was an honorable mention in district honors.

All-state honors by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association included players from state champion Navajo Prep, Tohatchi, Santa Fe Indian School, West Las Vegas, Robertson, St. Michael’s, Cobre, Ruidoso and Zuni.

Stats for the Lady Rattlers:

— Benavidez averaged 16.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.1 blocked shots per game.

— Lafferty averaged 13.4 points, a team-high 8.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 5.0 steals per game.

— Lopez averaged 13.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game.

— Huffman averaged 1.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game.

— Smith averaged 2.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

— Ramirez averaged 2.3 pounds and 1.3 rebounds per game.

The Lady Rattlers finished with a 23-4 record, went undefeated in their district and advanced to the state quarterfinals.
