Logan sophomore guard Desta Rose earned Class 1A girls basketball first-team all-state honors, in addition to being all-district, after helping lead her team to a runner-up finish in the state tournament.
Rose, a varsity starter since she was an eighth-grader, was the Lady Longhorns’ leading scorer on a team that made it all the way to the state championship game.
Rose averaged 19.3 points, 3.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Logan senior guard Hailee Robertson also earned honorable mention all-state and also was first-team all-district. She averaged 9.1 points, 5.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game.
Other Lady Longhorns who earned first-team all-district honors were senior center Camryn Cantrell (8.1 points, 7.9 rebounds per game), senior forward Lizzy Horner (7.7 points, 4.4 rebounds per game) and senior center Laramee Shields (4.9 rebounds per game).
Presley Griffitt and Marilyn Moreno, both juniors, each were honorable mentions in all-district voting.
All-state honorees by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association included players from state-champion Fort Sumner, Cliff, Melrose, Dora, Jemez Valley, Corona-Vaughn, Roy-Mosquero and Springer.
Horner and Robertson also will play for the Green squad in the association’s annual 1A/2A Girls All-Star Game at 4:30 p.m. March 22 at Volcano Vista High School.
The Logan girls finished with a 23-8 record, won the district title and lost only in the title game to district rival Fort Sumner in the 1A tournament.
