Voters in Quay County and New Mexico must update their voter information by Jan. 28 to be able to cast ballots or file as a candidate for the June 4 primary election.
The Quay County Clerk’s Office in a news release last week asked residents to verify whether they are a registered voter in the county with the proper address of where they reside and a current mailing address.
“Let us remind you that New Mexico has closed primary elections,” the release stated. “You must be either registered as a Democrat, Republican or Libertarian to be eligible to cast a ballot in the upcoming June primary election.”
The New Mexico Secretary of State on Jan. 29 will issue a proclamation calling for a primary and general election.
On that date, a potential election candidate may not make additional changes to his or her voter registration, including name, address and political affiliation.
These local offices will be up for election during the June 4 primary:
— County commissioner in Districts 1 and 2
— County clerk
— County treasurer
— County assessor (two-year term).
The filing day for primary election candidates will be March 12.
Candidate guides with critical deadlines, forms and other other information are available in the Quay County Clerk’s Office in Tucumcari or through the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website. The clerk’s office can be called at (575) 461-0510.
