The Logan boys basketball team won the season-opening Dora Tournament in resounding fashion, including a 78-46 victory over Roy-Mosquero in the championship game Saturday.
Logan raced to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter and commanded a 36-21 lead at intermission.
Mason Wallin led the Longhorns with 17 points, and Hayden Bruhn added 15.
Logan won the tournament’s three games by an average of over 35 points.
“Sharing the basketball, rebounding and defense were the keys to our success” at the tournament, Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said. “This team can attack you in a lot of different ways.
“We did a good job running the floor and getting easy shots. Our big men finished well around the basket. The guys are excited and are playing very well together.”
Logan 81, Elida 21
Logan’s fast start enabled it to cruise to an 81-21 victory Friday over Elida in the semifinal of the tournament.
The Longhorns stormed to a 22-9 lead in the first quarter and made an 18-2 scoring run to start the second quarter for a 40-11 lead.
Logan led 50-14 at halftime.
Brock Burns scored 17 points to lead Logan, and Wallin added 14.
Logan 74, Whitharral 59
Logan jumped to an 11-1 lead in the first quarter and made it stand up during a 74-59 victory Thursday over Whitharral, Texas, in the tourney opener.
The Longhorns led 38-31 at intermission and 55-45 after three quarters.
Wallin scored 19 points to lead Logan, and Bruhn added 14.
Whitharral ended the weekend with a 3-1 record.
