After a season-opening loss, the Logan girls basketball team rebounded with two wins during the Dora Tournament, including a 51-46 victory over the host team Saturday in the consolation final.
With the Lady Longhorns clinging to a slim lead, Desta Rose drove into the paint for two baskets in the final 1:15 to preserve the win.
Rose totaled 17 points to lead Logan.
Logan’s defense also held Dora scoreless for more than 2 1/2 minutes late in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Longhorns took a lead it never would relinquish with a 10-1 run in the second quarter after trailing 16-15.
Dora narrowed the gap to 43-42 with 6:10 left in the game but never drew closer.
Logan coach Dustin Robertson admitted his team looked a little erratic during the tournament.
“We would play pretty well in spurts, then we could look a step behind for a while,” he said. “We probably just need a few more practices, and we will attempt to be better conditioned in the coming weeks.”
Logan 59, Amherst 19
The Lady Longhorns raced to a 25-1 lead in the first quarter en route to a 59-19 victory Friday over Amherst, Texas, in the consolation bracket of the tournament.
Logan led 41-8 at intermission and 57-12 after three quarters.
Camryn Cantrell led the Lady Longhorns with 16 points, and Rose added 13.
Amherst ended the weekend with a 1-6 record.
Whitharral 54, Logan 32
Logan couldn’t hit the broad side of barn in the first and part of the second quarter during a season-opening 54-32 loss Thursday to Whitharral, Texas, in the first round of the tournament.
The Panthers grabbed leads of 10-0 and 21-2 during the first half against the cold-shooting Lady Longhorns.
Logan played better after that, but it had dug too deep of a hole.
Whitharral led 27-14 at halftime and 38-22 after three quarters.
Rose led Logan with 14 points.
Whitharral (8-1) won the tournament with subsequent victories over Elida and Roy-Mosquero.
