Four players from Tucumcari High School’s volleyball team earned first-team honors last week in District 4 of Class 3A.
First-team members for the Lady Rattlers were:
— Senior defensive specialist and outside hitter Haisley Huffman (146 kills, a team-high 258 digs, 255 receptions);
— Junior setter Caylee Benavidez (166 kills, a team-high 602 assists and 63 aces, 242 digs and 37 blocks);
— Freshman outside hitter Cambree Benavidez (a team-high 232 kills, 56 aces and 154 digs);
— Senior libero Alexis Ramirez (53 aces, 205 digs, a team-high 353 receptions).
Honorable mentions for Tucumcari were:
— Senior defensive specialist Harley McKinney (133 assists, 129 receptions);
— Senior outside hitter Kylie’Ann Rincones (64 kills and 29 aces);
— Senior middle blocker Kirksey Smith (42 kills, 60 aces, 34 blocks, 64 digs);
— Junior middle blocker July Lafferty (112 kills, a team-high 54 blocks, 57 digs).
The Lady Rattlers finished with an all-time-best 20-7 overall mark and won the district title with a 5-1 record.
They qualified for the Class 3A tournament as a fifth seed and won two games, their first ever at the event.
