After spotting Tatum an early 6-0 lead, host Logan responded with seven unanswered touchdowns en route to a 50-12 district victory on Friday in the regular-season finale in eight-man football.
The Longhorns (7-3) led 24-6 at halftime and 38-6 after three quarters. They held a 44-6 advantage before the Coyotes (5-5) scored again.
“The defense played really well all night,” Logan coach Dwayne Roberts said.
Logan quarterback Brock Burns is known for his passing, but he made his presence felt with his legs, as well. In addition to his three touchdown passes, he scored three touchdowns on rushing plays for the Longhorns.
Roberts said he and his staff have been working more with Burns to further read the defense and take off running if he sees an opening.
Aydin Kotara caught three pass receptions for touchdowns for Logan. Devin Kotara and Payson Nials also scored TDs for the Longhorns.
Logan’s victory secured a second-place finish in District 3 with a 3-1 mark. Melrose captured the district title with a 50-0 drubbing of Fort Sumner on Friday night.
Logan will host Fort Sumner in the first round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday. (See other story in this edition.) The Longhorns overcame a three-touchdown deficit to defeat the Foxes 38-34 during a district clash earlier this month.
