Logan faces a rematch against Fort Sumner during the first round of the eight-man football playoffs.
The Longhorns (7-3), seeded fourth in the state tournament, have a home game against the defending state champion Foxes (5-2), seeded fifth, at 7 p.m. Friday.
Logan overcame a three-touchdown deficit to defeat host Fort Sumner 38-34 during a district clash on Oct. 6.
Logan coach Dwayne Roberts said because of Fort Sumner’s big line, he’ll be developing plays to try to counter that.
“It’ll be a good game,” he said. “It’ll be exciting.”
The winner of that game likely will play at top-seeded Melrose (9-1) the following weekend. Melrose faces eighth-seeded Tatum (5-5) in its first-round game.
Melrose captured the championship of Logan’s district with a 50-0 drubbing of Fort Sumner on Friday. The Buffaloes also defeated Logan 54-0 in its district game on Oct. 13.
The championship game is scheduled for Nov. 11.
Legacy Academy (7-1) was seeded second and Mesilla Valley (7-2) third. Logan fell to Mesilla Valley 44-28 in mid-September.
Other teams in the playoffs are sixth-seeded Menaul (6-3) and seventh-seeded Clayton (5-5).
All five teams in District 3, which includes Logan, qualified for the playoffs.
Seedings in the playoffs are determined by finish during the regular season, MaxPreps.com rankings, overall record, victories against district champions, member school input and head-to-head competition. Tiebreakers include head-to-head competition and strength of schedule.
