Tucumcari, San Jon runners compete at Amarillo Invitational

Tucumcari and San Jon runners competed Saturday morning at the Amarillo ISD Invitational at Rick Klein Park in Amarillo, Texas.

Due to technical problems on the event’s website, results were unavailable.

Tucumcari coach Tim Clark said his top boys runner at the meet at Alex Bueno De La O, followed by Bryan Carreon Reyes and Julian Flores.

“I think we’re improving every day,” Clark said. “We finished second with long runs during the week. The kids were pushing themselves.”

Clark said the 5,000-meter course in Amarillo was flat, though high-school runners were dealing with intense sun and 80-degree heat by race time.

Tucumcari didn’t field a full team Saturday because two athletes elected to stay behind to attend the funeral of THS freshman Javion Martinez.

Mitzi Flores was the lone member of the Lady Rattlers who competed Saturday.

THS runner MiKayla Klinger was competing at the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque.

Tucumcari’s next race will be Saturday at the NMMI Invitational at Roswell.
