1973: The family of H.W. Ingram announced today that arrangements have been completed for a merger of the Crescent Creamery to Clardy’s Quality Chekd Dairy of Roswell, effective this week.
Herbert Ingram worked for many years in the plant and on the sales routes of Clardy’s Dairy in the Pecos Valley before establishing Crescent Creamery in Tucumcari in 1937. Ingram died in 1965.
Walter F. Jentgen, manager of Clardy’s Dairy, plans no major changes in the operation of the business in Tucumcari, Nara Visa, Logan, San Jon and Conchas Dam except for curtailment of the plant operation. The business will continue to operate at 323 E. Main St., with most of existing personnel to remain. Several new trucks and equipment are being added.
— Saturday was designated as Little League Day in Tucumcari. Activities will kick off at 10 a.m. with a free baseball clinic at the Odeon Theatre with films from the 1972 World Series, 50 years of baseball and training footage from UNM.
— Swimming lessons are being offered at Tucumcari Municipal Pool starting June 11 through Aug. 5. Children as young as 5 can take the classes. The cost is $5.
— Casey Cantrell was elected Quay County Democratic Chairwoman, replacing Helen Gordon, who resigned after she moved from Tucumcari. The election was held May 31 in the county courthouse.
