Crystal Lake Manufacturing of Alabama announced it purchased the broom and mop operations of Ingle Brothers Pacific, which included plants in Tucumcari and Amarillo.
Crystal Lake stated it would continue to operate the Tucumcari plant, with Stanley D. Koschnick as general manager of what will be known as National Broom of New Mexico.
Koschnick said the Tucumcari plant would be built up to 40 to 50 employees, with about $1 million in annual sales.
— A sell-out crowd of more than 300 people attended the first annual Ute Lake Bicentennial Banquet at the Logan High School gymnasium. They enjoyed a steak dinner catered by the Fireside Inn, listened to state and area officials and watched a presentation of “Historical Cavalcade of Northeastern New Mexico” compiled by merchants, students and residents.
— Several Tucumcari businesses were offering Easter specials, including a 25% discount for color portraits by LeDeane Studio and the Pow Wow Restaurant offering a Easter egg hunt on its patio and a buffet dinner of baked ham, roast hen turkey, roast beef, potato salad and a dessert bar.
— The Odeon Theatre was showing Walt Disney’s “The World’s Greatest Athlete,” starring Tim Conway and Jan-Michael Vincent.
