Logan softball earns first victories of season

The Logan softball team earned its first victories of the season with a doubleheader sweep Friday at San Jon.

The Lady Longhorns (2-6) prevailed by scores of 21-4 and 24-2.

In the first game for Logan, Charli Fuller went 3-for-5 hitting with two RBI and three runs scored. In the pitcher’s circle, she struck out three and allowed for hits for the win.

Alexis Nixon went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs scored. Jayden Garcia also went 3-for-4 with a double and an inside-the-park grand slam.

In the second game, Camryn Cantrell drew three walks, scored four runs and hit an inside-the-park home run. Presley Griffith went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and four stolen bases.

Fuller struck out four and allowed no hits in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

The Coyotes (0-6) are fielding their first-ever softball team this season, with no seniors and only one junior.

Santa Rosa 17, Logan 2

Santa Rosa 18, Logan 3

Santa Rosa swept a doubleheader last Monday against visiting Logan by scores of 17-2 and 18-3.

Both games were shortened to three innings due to the mercy rule.

In the first game, the Lady Lions had just seven hits but were aided by 13 walks. Santa Rosa had a 10-1 lead after one inning.

For Logan, Marilyn Moreno went 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run and a stolen base.

In the nightcap, Santa Rosa led 13-0 after the first inning. Kasydi Chavez hit a double and triple and drove in five runs for the Lady Lions.

For the Lady Longhorns, Moreno went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Camryn Cantrell and Sadie Bruhn each hit a double, drove in a run and scored another.

Santa Rosa improved to 8-4.

Clayton 31, San Jon 1

Clayton cruised to a 31-1 victory over visiting San Jon last Monday.

The Yellowjackets improved to 3-1 overall.
