Logan baseball team improves to 9-0

The defending Class 1A champion Logan baseball team improved to 9-0 on the season after a commanding doubleheader sweep Friday at Clayton.

In the first game, Logan scored 14 runs in the third inning en route to a 23-1 victory in five innings.

Izaiah Kneitz, Skyler DeLuca and Park Strong each drove in three runs for the Longhorns, with totaled 21 hits and nine doubles.

Kneitz and Brock Burns combined on the mound for for seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits and two walks.

In the second game, the Longhorns scored a total of 17 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cruise to a 22-1 victory in five innings.

Kaeden Stoner and Strong combined on the mound for Logan for 11 strikeouts and just two hits, one walk and one earned run allowed.

Aydin Kotara went 3-for-4 with a team-high four RBI. Diego Sanchez drove in three runs, and Mason Wallin hit a double and a home run.

Clayton fell to 0-10-1.

Logan begins its district schedule this week with games against Cimarron and Grady, plus a home game against Melrose on April 17.

Logan swept a doubleheader against visiting Questa by scores of 17-1 and 25-2 last Monday.

In the first game, Logan led 14-0 after the first inning. Diego Sanchez hit a double and a home run and totaled five RBI for the Longhorns. Park Strong went 3-for-3 with two doubles, one triple and four RBI.

Sanchez and Mason Wallin combined on the mound for 11 strikeouts and just four hits allowed in five innings.

In the second game, Logan led 19-0 after two innings. Strong drove in five runs with a 3-for-4 performance. Sanchez totaled four RBI, including a home run and two doubles. Skyler DeLuca hit two triples and also drove in four runs.

Izaiah Kneitz and Hayden Bruhn combined for eight strikeouts and just two hits allowed in five innings.

Questa fell to 1-8-1.
