Tucumcari senior Alexus Lafferty broke her own school record in the javelin throw Thursday at the 12-team George Love Invitational in Portales.
Lafferty hurled the javelin a distance of 111 feet, 9 inches, breaking her old mark of 108 feet, 1 inch that she set last year.
She tied for first place at the meet with Yolanda Granados of Eunice.
Other Lady Rattlers who scored team points were:
— Haisley Huffman, sixth in the 100-meter dash (0:13.83) and fifth in the long jump (15-5);
— 1,600-meter sprint medley relay team, sixth (5:09.14).
In boys competition, Tucumcari’s Fernando Ureste suffered his first loss of the season in the 3,200-meter run with a second-place finish to Lovington’s Ethan Castenallos, whose time was 10 minutes, 45.53 seconds.
Ureste ran it in 10:58.44.
Other Rattlers who scored team points were:
— Adan Diaz, sixth in 200-meter dash (0:25.0);
— Xzander Garcia, fifth in the javelin (145-0).
Logan finishes second
The Logan boys and girls teams each finished second at the 16-team Buffalo Relays meet Thursday at Melrose, with the host squads winning the title.
Logan sophomore Haden Judd won the 400-meter dash in 52.2 seconds and the pole vault (11 feet). He also finished second in the 100-meter dash (0:11.44) and 200-meter dash (0:23.96) and fourth in the triple jump (37-3).
Kaeden Stoner won the javelin throw with an effort of 131 feet. He also finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (0:47.0).
Logan’s 3,200-meter relay team also won with a time of 9:40.40.
Other Longhorns who scored team points:
— Aydin Kotara, fourth in the 200-meter dash (0:24.49);
— Bill DeLuca, fifth in the 800-meter run (2:23.06);
— Brock Burns, third in the high jump (5-10);
— Park Strong, fourth in the shot put (41-1 1/2) and second in the discus (123-7 1/2);
— 400-meter relay team, second (0:46.96);
— 1,600-meter sprint medley relay, third (4:20.0).
Logan totaled 80 1/2 points to Melrose’s 96 1/2.
For the Logan girls, Kaylee Williams won the 100-meter dash (0:13.78) and 200-meter dash (0:27.71) and finished runner-up in the triple jump (32-9 1/2).
The Lady Longhorns also won the 400-meter relay (0:54.62) and the 800-meter relay (1:54.45).

— Haylie Bidegain, third in the 800-meter run (2:46.13);
— Makinlee Judd, third in the 300-meter hurdles (0:52.30) and second in long jump (14-10);
— Sadie Bruhn, fifth in triple jump (29-4);
— Abby Paris, fifth in discus (88-9 1/2);
— 3,200-meter relay team, third (12:15.85).
The Logan girls totaled 63 points, second only to Melrose’s 86.
