Logan, Texico tie for title at Fort Sumner

The Logan boys track team tied for first place with Texico on Saturday at the 15-team Mario Martinez Qualifier meet at Fort Sumner.

Haden Judd, the top boys athlete at the meet, won two individual events, finished second in another and helped the Longhorns in several relay races on their way to 85 team points, tied with Texico.

Tucumcari finished sixth with 35 points.

The Lady Longhorns finished runner-up in the girls standings with 74 points, a smidge behind meet champion Santa Rosa’s 76 points.

Tucumcari finished third with 63 points.

Logan’s Haylee Williams was the top girls athlete by winning the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes and placing fifth in the long jump.

Judd won the boys 200-meter dash in 23.28 seconds, about a third of a second faster than teammate and runner-up Aydin Kotara. Judd also won the triple jump in 39 feet, 3 1/2 inches and finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash (0:11.60).

Other Longhorns who scored points at the meet:

— Christian Kotara, second, 400-meter dash (0:54.61);

— Izaiah Kneitz, second, long jump (18-10 1/2), and third, triple jump (37-11);

— Kaeden Stoner, sixth, 300-meter hurdles (0:46.71), and second, javelin (143-7);

— Park Strong, third, shot put (40-9), and fourth, discus (109-2);

— 400-meter relay, second (0:45.99);

— 1,600-meter relay, sixth (3:49.70);

— 1,600-meter sprint medley relay, second, (4:12.43).

For Tucumcari, Fernando Ureste won the 1,600-meter run for the third straight meet. His time of 5:09.14 beat Pecos’ Lawrence Ragland by more than 2 1/2 seconds. Ureste finished second in the 3,200-meter run in 10:59.84.

Other Rattler boys who scored points at the meet:

— Dezmon Pacheco, fourth, 1,600-meter run (5:25.75);

— 400-meter relay, seventh (0:47.19);

— 800-meter relay, third (1:39.46);

— 1,600-meter relay, third (3:47.10);

— 1,600-meter sprint medley replay, fourth (4:45.93);

— 3,200-meter relay, fifth (10:07.43).

In girls action, Logan’s Williams won the 100-meter dash (0:13.44) and 400-meter dash (1:03.75). She also finished fifth in the long jump (13-9).

Haylie Bidegain won the triple jump (29-10), finished third in the 800-meter run (2:41.62) and placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:07.65).

Makinlee Judd won the 300-meter hurdles race (0:50.88) and was second in the 200-meter dash (0:29.43).

Abby Paris won the discus throw (94-10) and finished fifth in the shot put (27-11 1/4).

— 800-meter relay, second (1:56.64);

— 1,600-meter sprint relay, sixth (5:10.76);

— 3,200-meter relay, second (12:08.89).

For the Tucumcari girls, defending Class 3A champ Haisley Huffman won the long jump (15-2 3/4).

The Lady Rattlers’ 400-meter relay team also won in 0:53.41, as did the 800-meter relay squad (1:55.18).
