Tucumcari’s baseball team went 1-2 during the West Las Vegas Tournament, including a 23-0 loss Saturday to East Mountain.
Rattlers coach George Montano indicated the district-rival Timberwolves hit into a lot of good luck, and his team had a lot of bad luck.
“I felt we had a good lineup to play a good ballgame against East Mountain,” he said. “The score looks crazy, but East Mountain hit every single gap that field had, and we couldn’t get an out to save our lives or get our offense going. We had the bases loaded, and once again couldn’t get anyone across the plate.”
Tucumcari (4-4) begins district play this week with games against Ruidoso and Sandi Prep.
“I told the boys after Saturday’s game that we’re in a new season where we’re at 0-0,” he added. “The guys reacted with a ‘Let this one go and let’s get ready for the next; we’ll see these guys again’ comment, and that’s a good sign to hear as a coach.”
East Mountain improved to 5-4.
Robertson (6-1) won the West Las Vegas Tournament.

Socorro, which committed five errors, fell to 2-8-1 on the weekend.
