1973: Winds gusting to 60 mph caused the cinderblock walls of Cooper’s Cleaners on Second Street near downtown Tucumcari to collapse.
City police also said Jerry Gardner reported a neighbor’s carport had blown over onto his car, causing damage.
The gusts also sent picket fences and roof shingles flying before winds subsided.
— A state survey team was scheduled to meet with affected landowners who were concerned about the state of Tucumcari Lake. Landowners claimed polluted water and increased flow into the lake was hazardous to homes, livestock, crops and the health of people.
