Logan fends off upset bid by Grady

The Logan boys basketball team fended off a comeback bid by host Grady on Thursday for a 61-59 victory in its regular-season finale.

The win sealed a No. 3 seed for the Longhorns (16-10 overall, 3-5 in district play) for this week’s District 6-A tournament. Logan, which earned a first-round bye, was scheduled on Tuesday to host the winner of Monday’s game between Clovis Christian (17-9, 3-5) and Grady (7-15, 0-8).

The winner of that game would go to second-seeded Melrose (20-5, 6-2) at 6 p.m. Thursday. The winner of that contest would go to top-seeded Fort Sumner (24-2, 8-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday for the championship.

On Thursday, the Longhorns held a double-digit lead for much of the game, but the Bronchos whittled it down in the fourth quarter.

Logan stopped two scoring attempts by Grady in the final minute.

“It’s always a tough game at Grady,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said. “We had to fight all the way to the end of the game. We made enough big plays to come away with the win.”

Mason Wallin led the Longhorns with 17 points, and Kaeden Stoner added 14.
