Four reports of shots-fired incidents in Tucumcari on Tuesday night led to a brief lockdown of Rattler Gymnasium after a boys basketball game and officers searching to find the suspects.
Interim Tucumcari Police Chief Patricia Lopez said Wednesday that police had identified two possible suspects in shots-fired incidents, but no arrests had been made. Tucumcari Police still were investigating.
Lopez said the shots-fired calls came from throughout the city.
She said no injuries or property damage had been reported.
One of the shots-fired calls was reported near West Tucumcari Boulevard, prompting a precautionary lockdown of Rattler Gymnasium for about 30 minutes after a high school boys basketball game against Ruidoso, said THS athletic director Wayne Ferguson.
Tucumcari Police posted on social media that there was no active shooter “at this time” by 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Quay County Emergency Management also sent a text Wednesday morning, stating there was “no active threat” in the city.
“Deputies and officers are patrolling the school areas and around town. If you see anything suspicious, please call 9-1-1. Thank you for your patience,” the text stated.
