The board for Logan Municipal Schools last week unanimously approved a resolution supporting Quay County’s bid to build a new hospital in Tucumcari.
Noting “a great need for a critical access healthcare facility” in the area, the resolution states “the infrastructure systems of the current hospital are failing and deemed to be at the end of the useful lifespans” and without a hospital, those seeking care would have to travel at least 80 miles.
It also stated Stantec Engineering would complete a design of a new Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital this month, and the county lacks the bonding capacity to build a new facility without state or federal funding.
“The Logan Municipal Schools Board of Education does hereby support Quay County’s effort to request a special appropriation from the state legislature during its 2023 session,” the resolution states.
In other business, the board approved the school district’s annual audit.
“It was very good,” superintendent Dennis Roch stated in an email, “and our auditor praised the district for having a strong financial position.”
According to Clovis-based De’Aun Willoughby’s audit posted on the New Mexico State Auditor’s website, the school district had only one finding.
The finding, listed as a significant deficiency, stated five expenditures were coded incorrectly.
The board also held a closed executive session to discuss a possible real-estate transaction but took no action when open session resumed.
