1972: The Tucumcari City Commission approved city manager Alan Morris’ alternative plan for a youth recreation center.
Area youth would get a skating rink along with facilities for dancing, pool, pingpong, fuzzball and shuffleboard.
Blueprints of the rec center also showed pinball machines, candy and Coke machines and two tennis courts.
• A woman from Freeport, Illinois, was injured in a one-car accident 1.9 miles east of the county line on Interstate 40 when her vehicle skidded on ice and crashed into a burrow ditch, rolling 2 1/2 times.
• A Tucumcari boy was injured and hospitalized when his bicycle hit an icy patch on South Third Street and skidded on its side.
• Anthony’s clothing store advertised Levi’s men’s knit pants for $10, negligee sets for $9.88, ladies pantsuits for $11 and ladies capri pants for $4.88.
• The Odeon Theatre was scheduled to screen two horror films later in the week: “Grave of the Vampire” and “Garden of the Dead.”
