Serving the High Plains
Two players from Logan's football team earned first-team honors when District 3 announced its all-district selections in eight-man football last week.
Senior offensive lineman Park Strong made the first team in two spots - as a lineman on offense and as a linebacker on defense.
Brock Burns was the other first-team pick for the Longhorns, at the defensive end position.
Strong, a senior, averaged a team-high 11.1 tackles per game and tied a team high with 24 tackles for a loss.
Burns, a junior, led the Longhorns with 13 sacks, made 22 tackles for a loss and blocked two punts.
On the second team for Logan, Strong made it as a running back and tight end or slot back, Skyler Deluca as an offensive lineman and defensive lineman, Kaeden Stoner as a wide receiver, Burns as punter and Izaiah Kneitz as a defensive back.
Honorable mentions for the Longhorns were Christian Kotara on offense and Payson Nials on defense.
The Longhorns sported a 6-5 overall record, finished fourth in their rugged district and qualified for the postseason.
Fort Sumner-House (11-0), which won the district and claimed the state championship with a 44-34 victory over No. 1-ranked and previously unbeaten Lordsburg, boasted a total of 12 first-team picks.
Melrose, which finished second in the district and advanced to the state semifinals, had five first-team selections.
Tatum had seven first-team selections, and Clayton had one.
