1972: The Tucumcari Retail Merchants Committee is planning an annual Moonlight Madness Sale from 7 to 9 p.m. in mid-October.
Clerks and store managers will be dressed in night apparel, such as pajamas and nightgowns. The Tucumcari News planned to offer prizes for the best costumes.
• Tucumcari tax preparer Anna Hunt pleaded guilty in federal court in Albuquerque for filing false tax returns for a local couple. She originally was indicted on 32 counts.
• The local branch of New Mexico State Police welcomed two new officers: former city officer and Logan native Jim Williams and Jesse Yeargain, formerly of the Roswell Police Department.
• A local man was hospitalized with two deep stab wounds to his chest. Another local man was detained in the county jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
• The Odeon Theatre was screening a Disney film, “Napoleon & Samantha.” Up next was an Alfred Hitchcock movie, “Frenzy.” It also was showing an X-rated movie, “Maid in Sweden,” at 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday only.
