1972: A severe storm hit the Logan and Ute Lake areas. At least eight boats on the lake were sunk, and 20 to 25 boats were damaged in the north dock area. The dock also sustained damage, including its workshop. Winds blew off the roofs of several dock buildings. Food and supplies at the dock store were damaged when high winds swept water into the structure.
R.G. Pierce, owner of the dock, estimated the dock sustained up to $6,000 in damage and up to $9,000 in damage to boats.
Potter Boat Storage also reported damage to 15 to 20 units there.
• Gov. Bruce King, along with members of the Board of Economic Development, were in Tucumcari for the board’s regular meeting. King was met at Tucumcari Municipal Airport by members of the local chamber of commerce. The meeting was held at the Holiday Inn, where King served as chairman.
• Thomas M. Prescott and his son Michael Prescott were elected as alternate delegates for the Republican National Convention in Miami. Michael Prescott, who just turned 20, will be the youngest delegate from New Mexico to ever attend the GOP convention. Leonard Moya, 21, also was chosen as a page at the Republican convention.
