Tucumcari on Saturday recorded its hottest day in recorded history, and it also was the hottest place in New Mexico.
According to the National Weather Service, its weather station at Tucumcari Municipal Airport recorded a high of 112 degrees on Saturday afternoon.
That beat the old record of 106 degrees for June 11, and it surpassed Tucumcari’s previous all-time hottest day of 110 degrees in 2020.
Tucumcari on Saturday also proved to be the hottest spot in New Mexico, with only Roswell and its high of 111 degrees approaching it.
The NWS reported at least 11 spots in New Mexico surpassed the previous high-temperature record for June 11.
New Mexico State University stated the all-time highest temperature in the state’s recorded history was 116 degrees — at Orogrande on July 14, 1934, and at Artesia on June 29, 1918.
